and Danny took one-sixth. That left six candies as Emily's share. How many candies were there altogether?

However, I did this by trial and error and there's probably a cleverer method.

120. A 1/3 = 40. a 1/4 = 30. a1/5 =24. A1/6 =20.
Thats 40+30+24+20=114 leaving 6 for Emily

1/3 + 1/4 + 1/5 + 1/6 = 20/60 + 15/60 + 12/60 + 10/60 = 57/60. So the remaining 3/60 (emily's share) equate to 6 sweets, so each sixtieth is worth 2 sweets, so 60/60 are 120 sweets.

The lowest common denominator of 1/3 1/4 1/5 and 1/6 is 60.
1/3 = 20/60
1/4 = 15/60
1/5 = 12/60
1/6 = 10/60

adding up to 57/60. That means the 6 that are left is 3/60. Therefore the total number would be 120 as previously stated.

That's the way I did it, probably a shorter method somewhere.
