(...just a hint, as you appear to be. er, a newbie... book titles are among the easiest answers to find; just type them in on a search and you'll get a billiion sites trying to sell them to you and telling you who wrote them...)

Thanks Mike B. Yes I am a - er - newbie. I did try a search using the titles but got everything and everybody's birthday from GWB's onward. I think those titles are two of the lesser known works of Sillitoe. I had read others of his so was actually familiar with his works. I also sent myself off in the wrong direction by guessing his first name as Adam. I guess I haven't got the search procedure down to a fine art as yet, but the Lord does love a trier. Thanks anyway for your suggestion.

...useful tip I didn't get at first - put title within ".........", otherwise you'll get deluged with answers for each individual word. Try it with the first of the above...

Hi Mike. I just tried that on Google and it worked for "A Man of his Time," but not for "Birthday." However, it's a step in the right direction and I thank you for your help.
