7d Polled! (8) P?R?O?E?
This last one is frustating me. I can think of parroted, pardoned, or purposed but I don't see how any of them work.

Many thanks

I sent in Parroted as a parrot is called Poll or Polly. That's my only reasoning.
Parroted - Poll or Polly = familar name for a parrot. Dreadful clue though, typical DT...
It's PARROTED - as in Poll(y) the Parrot
The verb "to poll" = "to parrot" = to repeat parrot-fashon
Chambers certainly doesn't support that definition, Crofter.

Many thanks all.

I agree Quizmonkey - dreadful clue!
QM ... I was using an old version of Chambers (1989).
poll - v.t. and v.i. to parrot
parrot - v.t. to repeat by rote - v.i. to talk like a parrot
Interesting. Current Chambers just has the verb 'to poll-parrot'.
Quizmonkey I didn't make it as clear as I could have, but to get my earlier detailed response, I FIRST looked up poll - and got your definition.

I THEN looked up parrot as a separate exercise and merged both definitions to formulate my posting for AB (as above).
