Octad - a group or series of 8. Answered below
I don't think that is the same clue as below, though Octad is a group or series of 8.

did not see the post below,as it came under international express but thanks
the valency of a substance is the number of free electrons in its outermost shell and , in this case, the answer is an octet
Question Author
cannot be as ends in D
You didn't state any letters in your original question.
Go to a dictionary site and it will say that octet is a stable group of eight electrons ( a chemical term).
Question Author
the d comes from the answer midlands, there for the answer is octad, and it could have been octet, but for the d,it was just a post to see if anyone had the same answer but thanks anyhow
It's 5 letters: begins with an O from ERGO (Latin for hence or therefore) ends in D from LINDISFARNE (The alternative name for an island off the NE coast of Northumberland, also called Holy Island)

IMHO the clue is rubbish. OCTAD fits but means a group or set of eight. OCTET would be a better answer, meaning a stable group of eight electrons.
I have puy OCTAD. Think the clue lies in the word "valency". A noun meaning, element's power to combine. Hope this helps.
My Collins says - octad: "an element with a valency of eight"
