What is this object ?(in London). It appears in one of Shakespeare's works - "a Rebel" struck it with his sword, commanding that claret should flow freely.

I think I've got the bustling street and the gate but need the above for confirmation.

Don't know what the object is, but am pretty certain that the gate is Bishopsgate (tho others were demolished in 1760). Poet is Alexander Pope and John Keats baptised in St Botolph's. What's the bustling street ?

I agree with Bishops's Gate (rather than East Gate) but now confused on the street. Stuck between Cornhill (north of Pope's Lombard St.) and Threadneedle st. - Any thoughts?
