Owing to the unforseen (unauthorised?) absence of our esteemed founder (ShamrockBlue) today, who has asked that we keep alive the quest for three stars for correctly predicting the links from todays dtgk crossword with Mondays Hercules, this posting may be used for your entries.
We wish him well on his 'away day' ...... whatever he may be up to. Questions may have to be asked on his return!!

Link words today (unless otherwise notified!)
TREAD - SPIN - SWORD - REGENT

It is hoped that ShamrockBlue) will be able to award the stars to the victor upon his return.

ShamrockBlue, good to see that you are back from your weekend "away". We all believe 100% that it was for work purposes, why would we think otherwise!!!!?

Should there be a winner tomorrow, it's only fitting that you should officially make the presentation of the coveted three stars.

My entry (if allowed)
SPIN STIR?
CROSS SWORD
REGENT BIRD
TREAD THE BOARDS

Cheers
Sarumite
:)
I think you deserve to win this week Sarumite for your sterling work.
Thanks again.
Yes thanks for getting this started sarumite....noticed you were very busy on Sat....couldn't get on much myself until today, as daughter was ill. ..Welcome back ShamrockBlue....course you were working!!!!!?? Nice to be missed eh?

Hi Pauline, hope your daughter is on the mend.... I was on and off the site for much of yesterday but not today... I did manage to finish the two Sun Tel crosswords earlier but only just starting the Mail on Sun so may be asking for help if I hit a bad patch!
Sorry S...just logged on to your reply...ask away if you need to! Sure you don't!! Thanks..daughter is a bit better now...she has temporal lobe epilepsy and had a bad 'do' ..she is a lot better today...many thanks for your concern and for keeping everyone going!!!
At this stage, the most popular answers appear to be:
TREAD = MILL (by a good way)
SPIN = DOCTOR (by a good way)
SWORD = FISH (followed closely by BROAD then DANCE)
REGENT = STREET (followed closely by PRINCE)
On these results, who is favourite?
gillwil was the first to select these four most ppular answers and later to be followed by Ortega! But there's lots in the chasing pack! Good luck everyone.
Rather than having a points score based on "all or nothing", is their any support for creating a (partial) scoring system that gives credit for the number of "Hits".

Accuracy:
A person with only ONE correct element would get ONE point, TWO correct elements would get TWO points , THREE elements THREE points, but all FOUR would get SIX points (that is 3 points for the fourth and last element)

Novelty:
The person who FIRST declared a winning element would be credited with a bonus point.

Consistency:
Your current points aggregate could be the total number of points that has been amassed over the last FOUR weeks.

Any thoughts? I thought that I should post this BEFORE the answers were announced.

Hi Crofter, I have issued a separate posting with results of this weeks "game", but have not listed actual details of the linkwords, as not wishing to spoil enjoyment of solving the crossword for others.
Whilst I see the merits of introducing a points system on the lines suggested, I am not convinced that many of the ABers who take part in this light hearted diversion would wish to "formalise" it in this way.
However, I have only been a temporary incumbent of this position and must leave it to ShamrockBlue and others to determine any changes.
Best wishes
sarumite
