20a Bitterness on a ship (6) G?L?O?
Is this a mistake? I can only think that the answer is 'Gallon' but the clue implies that the answer is a kind of ship, but 'Galleon' just doesn't work! Please explain (?!).

I did not understand it. I thought it would be galleon, but obviously it does not fit. I also put gallon.
Try Galiot, alternative spelling of galliot.
Bitterness = Gall + on
but , unless there is a ship called a Gallon , I think it must be a mistake !

Thanks Aquagility, but that answer doesn't seem to make any sense either. If you think it does, please explain!

I've looked for a ship called a 'Gallon' ,but could not find one anywhere!
If you Google ,
Gallon + ghost ship
there is an article from BBC wales , this is the only reference i can find to gallon ship .

Cheers Beerbelly! So I think that we all agree that this is either a very obscure clue or a mistake by the Daily Express Puzzles/Quizzes Department. Thanks All for your contribution. Mark.
The answer given in today's Express is Gallon!!!!

How they got that is anyone's guess............it looks like Aquagility was not thinking along those lines!!!!!!!!!!

You would have thought that someone with a 'Tag Line' involving water would have got that one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
