Oh dear crofter ... I really shouldn't have needed that one explained should I !
PS Bradfords is officially on my list for Santa.
Nearly finished this one now, just 21 to get
Roast the man ... have tried the anagram solver to no avail and I'm sure it's not 'within' the clue ??
If it had been 'toast the man' perhaps I would have got it by now !
69. Lose the toss ... I have put 'tails' but does it really fit the 'below the knee' ?
xx

69. Don't like 'tails'
What if the word 'toss' is a clue to an anagram? Then an angram of 'lose the' will give you HOSELET.
I found this reference yhrough Google:
there were these little "hoselets" at a department store
that women use somehow to protect their feet when they try-on high heels at a shoe store now. essentially a toe-end
of a stocking.

Thanks smouse ... I think I prefer hoselet but perhaps you know something I can't see xx
I think you should be gem2 tonight. The anagram solver obviously does not like names but just words. I think that is a great answer.
Yes, if you take away the 'toss' it leaves you with hoselet. Round here we call them 'footsie'
I don't know where I'd be without you lot ... Love you all. xx

earthakittenI liked your toast/roast play on words!
gen2 I admire your doggedness - I'd want you on my side! Getting hoselet was inspired!
However my vote for 69 would be with smouse and "flip flop". You flip a coin and a flop implies a loss. The setter is more likely to know "flip flop" than "hoselet".
I only hope that I'm right!
