Many thanks for your suggestion - I can't just think what the seven letter word could be but I'll go on trying.
Husband.

Thats possible a stupid answer (No3) Is this a quiz
in a particular magazine, ?
If memory serves me correctly, the person who suggested Lord Bernard Montgomery wrote that that would be "The Full Monty."

poorclare - No, it-s not a magazine quiz it's the Capel le Ferne Quiz on Famous People. Thanks for trying to help.
Ontariorice - Thanks for your comments - I'll have a good think about that.
Freda. It was me who originally suggested - very tentatively - Lord Bernard Montgomery. As far as I remember the actual clue was 'Complete man of the house', to which the answer might be (the ) full monty.
Translating that into a famous person, the best I could come up with was Lord Bernard Montgomery. ( The words fitted the letter pattern 4, 7, 10)
Field Marshal the Viscount Montgomery of Alamein was nicknamed Monty: he might have been known as Lord Montgomery informally, or as Bernard Montgomery by his friends and relations , but he would never have been called Lord Bernard Montgomery.
I would love to see a better suggestion!

Kettledrum - Many thanks for your explanation. Yes, I now can see the connection but, as you say, I am very doubtful about the Lord title. Thanks again for taking the trouble to explain.
