i'm stuck with the following in a local quiz.
answers are creatures great or small eg animal, bird , insect or reptile.
1) Deal maybe, with a measure of loyalty (9)
2) An ageing dog (9)
3) You don't want this on your hearth (7)

Any help, much appreciated.

I'm sorry you didn't like my suggestion of Cricket for (3).

Although a 'hearth cricket' is considered by some to bring luck, you certainly wouldn't want the game of cricket to be played in your hearth!
