Blueyag - I think this thread has gone cold....Can I suggest that you repost this question as early as possible on Saturday morning ; lots of people check into this site over the weekend and you might get lucky and attract the attention of someone who knows the answers you are seeking. Have you got anything more to help us all...the number of letters? an example ( or 2 ) of answers that you have already solved?

blueyag - I have been coming back to these two clues time and again and the first one has intrigued me (it had to start wirth WIN). This morning the final piece slotted into place!
The answer is: WIND AND RAIN!
I leave you the pleasure of sorting out the logic for yourself!

Now that we know the clues are clever, some thoughts on the second clue! It could be something like WINGHARP(?)
Take R from WRING (force) + (S)HARP. Good luck!

Thsnks to crofter for his brilliant answer. The logic is so easy and it was a great clue. I am toying with the idea of GRITTERS for the other one with TERSE being brusque. I know the grit bit is a bit suss but usuable if all else fails.

HI. I have decided that the answer to question 2 is gritters - G (force) r it terse ( minus the e )

blueyag I'm sure you're right with GRITTERS. The only weak word in the clue is "From". I would have preferred "Right INTO the force it ...".
