I considered Miles Davis and then realised that Ray from The Kinks is Davies not Davis. Also 1760 yards is a mile singular not plural as in Miles Davis. Not much help I'm afraid but still trying.
No I do not think it is the Posers, cos noone bar you and their family and fan club has ever heard of them. Where did you get such a dodgy quiz...I know it's meant to be cryptic but if there are so many different possibilities as to the answers then I think a little more snappiness on the part of the setters could be in order. Can't you just send it in and tell them that there could be several answers, then next time they might not be so flumpy.
plus in a cryptic quiz then the respondents are meant to make lateral thoughts, so it makes little odds whether Davies/Davis is spelled either way. It really depends on the mentality of the peope who have set the quiz and how *retentive they are. If you had given more idea of the origin of the quiz then we would be able to pitch the answers more accurately. Don't forget that some of the setters may be young and trying to be smart from their parents' collections
The quiz is from "laboratory news"one more question i,m not sure on is "DIVING BIRDS"thanks for all your help these questions are way above my intelligence
could also have been 'kingfishers catch fire', a band i had the misfortune to house share with once. Don't worry, quizzes are not much to do with intelligence imo!
The question should be 'Ray is 1760 yards ahead' and is my mistake. I have already made my humble excuses once already on this site.
Sorry to be so 'flumpy', crosso. This is the 8th year running I have devised ths quiz, that's 400 questions to date, and I am running out of original inspiration. Lab News have borrowed my quiz this year - I don't get paid for it - and it's only a bit of fun.
However, do keep looking at question No. 36. I am betting that most people will get this wrong....
