citygrounder - I can't think where you and the quiz setter got the idea that Arthur Wellesley was created Duke of Wellington in 1809. He started his progression up the ranks of the peerage in that year, being made Baron Douro & Viscount Wellington, but was not raised to the Dukedom until 1814.

I can't find a single site on google that even suggests he was made a duke in 1809.

kettledrum-I stand to be corrected,it is 1814 as you say.Looks like I got my answer from the same source as the quiz-setter, --sorry about that .

Shaneystar2-My, don't you get some pompous Grand Prix on the AB. But am I bov vered. The capitals were for the Nomads benefit and not mean't to debase your answer .

Please yourself ....I'm not particularly bothered either ..but it appeared to me as if if you were shouting and by writing it in that fashion made it look as if the guess I made was ridiculous.. ..it was.. but there you go.
