Are you sure of the first letter?
Could be draw - backwards ward - youngster/novice !

Only insofar as 18a which gives the 1st letter of the answer
is
Leave in a hurry to leg one over (3,3)

I had run off
Sorry. Can't help, but will keep thinking.
Hi David - I think your answer is 'PLAY'
Settle = Lay
P = Novice (P plate driver)
Down = Reverse Lay P = Play
. . . . all a bit dodgy!

If PLAY is correct (as in 'Show' / Theatre) then 'Run off' is a no-no . . . . possibly 'Peg Off' or 'Peg Out' ? Teacher1, what do you reckon ? ja
Put off - as in leave till later ?
Hi Teech - not too sure about 'put off' although you may well be right. I was thinking 'peg' for 'leg', then again I may be wrong with 'Play. David - what other guaranteed letters do you have?

Please remember to sign off this thread once you have your answers. Cheerz, ja.
. . . . David / Teacher - just realised, we need ??P ??? (not P?? ???) . . . time wasted, my apologies. Will check in again tomorrow. TTFN, ja
how about "hop off" ?
Question Author
I think the answer must be rip off but am unsure why
I've Googled "to leg one over", including the quote marks which searches grouped words (worth remembering). Was hoping this would mean 'to stitch up' or 'pull a fast one' , i.e. to 'rip off'. However, no joy. Even then, 'rip off' is not your every day expression for 'leave in a hurry', although rip does mean tear or scarper. . . .

Could also be 'Hop off' for 'Leave' (although casually?) and goes well with 'Leg' . . . . but still all depends on 'Play' so can't really draw a conclusion. Regards, ja
