dun/sent 9 xwords Sat/Sun/Mon but stumped completely by this one = got 20% ansas. 1a: Something to wear or climb (6?). 1d: Number one set of principles (?=up to 11 !). 7a: Usual practice in ones home (7). 9a: Out-of-order call-girl suffering (7). 22a: Note received by a lout or grunt = OI-- (4) {Seems to be OINK but cant see why + makes 26a start with "K" ; 26a: Piece of potassium near bone (6; poss K-----). If you have done this xw,kindly 4ward as many ansas as poss... driving me bonkers. RSVP & T>U>I>A . Mark.

26a is Knight (K is chemical symbol for potassium, nigh is near and T is the bone). Piece in the clue, is Knight as in chess.

paul21455: Astonishing! The way that youve clarified it makes me feel even more stoopid! Just cant seem to see things lateral-like(!) but then, how does 22d become OINK? Of all the XWs that I do, this is the one composed by a person Id willingly shoot. Many thanks for your help. M.
