A SPOON is an old name for a wooden golf club and you can be DOWN in match play in golf - the other terms / words have me stumped.
I'll try to start you off: SPOON= Golf Club (type of 'Wood'); HAND-IN= Squash Racquets: FOLLOWER=Hunting (field Sport);CIRCLE =Field Athletics (Hammer, Discus,Shot).
Wayout! MILLER= Horse Racing ('Golden Miller')
Miller - Horse Racing
Spoon - Golf
Laundry - Speedway
Hand-In - Squash
Circle - Shot / Discus / Hammer
Down - American Football
