Sunday Telegraph New Year Cryptic

Alas there seems to be no Sunday Cryptic from the Telegraph Crossword Society, though I gather there is one in the paper. Can't get hold of it out here in Portugal. Anyone know if there is any way of obtaining one?

Hi Bangor,
I don't know if they accept entries from abroad. I use my son's address in the U.K whenever I send a competition entry, so if should be lucky enough to win there are no complications over posting it (Needless to say this happens very very occasionally). I joined the Telegraph Crossword Society, for which I paid a fee, because newspapers here are very expensive and they don't include most of the sections, so many of the puzzle pages are just not there. But they have a cavalier attitude towards us fee paying members and simply don't do any puzzles that aren't quite the norm. From time to time they leave off even the normal ones with no word of explanation. As it is we don't get the Saturday General Knowledge but have to content ourselves with just the Saturday and Sunday Cryptics, plus the Sunday General knowledge.

I share your concern. Christiana. Our subscriptions to the TCS should ensure that we get the full range of puzzles but it doesn't. Regarding the 500 prize cryptic, the entry date is Friday 5th January, not very long if yours has got to travel from Portugal. Roll on, online competition entries!
A while back, there were several occasions when the Sunday puzzles didn't appear online on the correct day, though some appeared later, no doubt after complaints.
I wrote a letter to Val Gilbert, then the Crossword Editor. Though I didn't get a reply, the situation seems to have stabilised and the online crosswords are getting the attention they deserve as a fee-paying service.

Hi Christiana
I did think of using my brother's address in the UK but then wondered if a downloaded printed crossword would be accepted rather than the grid out of the newspaper. I too am a subscriber to the Crossword Society and am annoyed that we can't access the saturday general knowledge. I had thought of subscribing to The Times to access their Saturday Jumbo crosswords as they are always good fun - hair pulling frustrating, but fun. Then I thought it would be a waste of money as I cannot do the daily ones. I shall subscribe again to the Telegraph crossword as I really enjoy my daily "fix".
