The Title for this the first of our very own Link Game chose itself - but the links were a little more difficult to find.

I finally decided on the following:
Spring BOARD
INDIAN Summer
FREE Fall
Winter WHEAT

All were chosen - but by different people!
Well done all of you that took part!
A heart-warming response

With something like 50 entries from people with very active imaginations, the day for me has been very entertaining.

The very first entrant, Arabesque, stole the INDIAN Summer and picked up the bonus point for that one. Over the next few entries the same answer came in (but outside the 2-minute window). I had two thoughts: perhaps the 2 minutes shouldbe extended to 4 minutes (any ideas?) AND perhaps I had made the links too obvious!

Entrant No 4 (Tenter) picked off FREE Fall - another bonus point fell! Another 4 entries and in swooped JimJools with SpringBOARD. Less than 10 predictions lodged and THREE link words gone - but the final Link stood stubbornly until posting No. 61 and the mighty kettledrum entered the fray bearing Winter WHEAT. Very impressive linking kd!

The star of this challenging Round however I feel goes to ***Tenter*** with 3 points = two HITS and one BONUS point (for his free fall). He is closely followed by four ABers on 2 points for the single (but initial) hits for Arabesque, kettledrum and Tenter ... AND a double strike for wickedtongue (well done indeed). we always say that this is a game of pure chance yet he same names tend ti appear again and again.

There are a dozen or more others on 1 point and the rest "failed to exercise the scorer". These include all those who launched the international challenge. I even chose Indian Summer and Free Fall to make a certain person feel at home but they came to naught. Would it be fitting to speak "arabesque" and with a "wicked tongue" to say that I have been on "Tenter"hooks all day, but now can rejoice and beat the (kettle)drum - Round 1 to the home side. Keep an eye on the inside rail though in later Rounds!

To the eight entrants new to my spreadsheet, "Welcome" and thanks for the interest. Perhaps better luck next week when it's "same again". We run four weeks and look at the monthly totals.

I hope you enjoyed the themed challenge, accept the restriction on word length and will take part next week - when I have yet another themed challenge touching on another aspect of the Life and Works of Michael Mepham.

It is your enthusiasm that fuels the process.

"Good Night" from the croft!
Wow!! I do believe I've scored a point, and a bonus one as well. How really exciting! Thanks Crofter, for really making my weekend. I shall now have to make a big effort to get my act together before 7pm on a Sunday.
I personally don't think you should extend to four minutes, though I would have benefited by it with Indian Summer, as I distinctly remember seeing Arabesque's entry before I posted mine.

Thanks for all the fun, looking forward to next week.
Had another look and see my entry was five minutes later, but still think four minutes too long as I paused quite a long while after seeing Arabesque had started us all off

Christiana - That's very useful comment .Many Thanks
Well changing any of the rules won't affect me...I can't get any worse! I also delayed my entry when I saw guesses going on the same as mine, so I changed them. I think your rules are fine as they are, otherwise you could go on forever Crofter!...after all it is only a game!!!...until I am 1 point off winning!!! In my dreams!
Does that include my extra point crofter. :-)
Well done to everyone ..I don't have a hope as by the time I get up ..which is never early these days...and do all my chores ..walk Shaney and sort out my menfolk the deadline has gone and I am scrabbling around for words to fit !
But ..it's still a bit of fun to liven up the dull and dreary winter days.Thank you crofter.xx
I think the rules are ok as they are crofter. Thanks for your efforts crofter - very enjoyable game, roll on next Saturday.
Great as it is, crofter. Why gild the lily? Thanks for all your effort and enthusiasm, and HNY.
Aq.
Indeed yes, why gild the lily. All is fine as is, except we don't seem to be coming up with any winning words.
No Indian summer in 'the last outpost' this year Crofter, but lots of fall leaves.
Congratulations to the winners.
Thanks once again to Crofter.
Good evening from
O-ice and Co.
PS. I think I'll set the alarm clock next Saturday morning for 4:am. Do you think it would help?
Thinking of changing my handle to Rustybrain! I don't know what happened to any beginner's luck but it sure ain't been acomin' my way!! I am aiming for the prize that will be awarded at the end of the first year to the only ABer who scores absolutely no points whatsoever! Thanks crofter for all your efforts. For what it's worth, I think your rules are fine and dandy as they stand, but I do applaud your democratic approach!!! :O)

Okie dokie - Current rules stand for all time.

The ideas that have just been discussed do NOT affect your bonus point JimJools. I was wondering what would happen if some one else tried to follow close behind you with the SAME NEW link word! Should they ALSO get a bonus point if they were 4 minutes behind you?
They general feeling is "Only if they are 2 minutes behind". This generally applies to the first part of the game just after the START.

Just happy to make it onto the scoreboard !! thanks crofter for all your hard work, congrats everyone and roll on next Saturday
Good Morning absolutely amazed to be top of leaderboard especially after making a pig's ear of my first entry but must rememeber it's a marathon not a sprint .
Thanks to crofter for all the hard work in setting things up and scoring which must be an arduous task.
See you all next week.
Wow - a bonus point - that's a first for me. There's something to be said for getting up early on Saturday morning.

Many thanks Crofter for organising this.
Sorry Crofter,I'll read the rules properly next time!!
Thanks for organising this.
I have an overnight stay in hospital this weekend,so if I don't join in,I'm not sulking!!
Jetski
Crofter, I'm quite overwhelmed by your kind and flattering remarks! Mighty? Kettledrum may make a lot of noise - (almost) always out of time and out of tune with all the other players. The only other time I've scored a point was when there really was no sensible or viable alternative - but until now I could be compared to a broken reed.
Coming, as I do, as one of the last, I get almost as much fun trying to find 4 unique links as I do in getting the right answers.
Thank you Crofter for all your hard work and time, and giving me and the rest of the orchestra such a lovely bit of harmless fun every weekend.
