Thanks, Aquagility. I was using a Collins dictionary that didn't contain this answer. Should have used the Chambers. The Collins volume will be ditched for good. It's useless.

I often use this as a quick reference before turning to Chambers if necessary.

well, fry me for an oyster ... i owe mr collins half an apology. the markov chain IS in my 1986 collins english dictionary. but it ISN'T in the 2004.
