Compared with the 1st effort (anonymous I seem to recall) after the sad demise of MM, Kate`s compilations certainly get me going! Thank you Kate should you ever visit here.

I am sorry to have to disagree with aquagility. The term is used widely in the engineering world for exactly what the clue says. Whilst understanding your interpretation of a more abstract sense, I surmise that Kate meant it in the purely mechanical sense
