Time to concede defeat - can anyone solve and explain these please?
1d Surprised expression on entering word intended? (4)
o?th
7d Shelter from attempt to sell cocaine smuggled (4)
sc?g
Surprised expression O.... entering an intended word ..troth.
Intended means "sounds like " here ..I think ..as In "I plight thee my troth " ..but of course this may not be right ....perhaps you can enlighten us Aquagility ?
thanks to all of you for your help. I think the answer to 7d should be a word meaning 'shelter' i.e. scog or scug, but I still can't make sense of the clue.
1d must be oath but cannot explain it...
According to Chambers a Skug or a Scug means a shelter
So ...I think that is a better answer ..Scug with the C for Cocaine ..smuggled in.
Where is Kayakamina when you need him !!
I think Oath must be correct ..these are so hard to define ..
If someone "intends " something they plight a troth ..Old fashioned words "This is my intended " or in other words this is the person I am going to marry .So they plight a troth ..pronounced ..trowth....long O .
Oh ..is an expression of surprise.
Sorry - everybody - I did post a message to say that Kayakamina was having trouble with his computer / telephone line, but you must have mised it. He made a brief appearance yesterday morning but warned that his service was very temperamental. If Pauline's experience is anything to go by we'll be lucky to see him before the weekend.
