I have the same as problem as Aloysius535 !!

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Quizzes-and-Puz zles/Crosswords/Question364567.html

Has anyone woked out what the instruction means?

Across clues (A1 Etc) are normal but speed limits must be strictly observed (A6: slow down as economically as possible, keeping what might be behind you in view!).

(There are also instructions re 'Down' clues ... but, I would like to understand the across clues, first!)

Examples of across clues are ----

1. [40] Glitter is getting on - about 50, not 70 (5)

6. [60] Beetle could be off seeds, kind of (6)

12. [60] I'm all in , staggering over threshold (7)

13. [40] Hood's work (?) exhibits essentially poetic
ingenuity (5)

15. [70] Thumb's no end politically incorrect, not with it

13. Robin.......Hoods work robbing.
Question Author
I understand Robin Hood, and also robbing being Hood's work!

the rest of the clue? ? exhibits essentially poetic ingenuity'

.... and can you explain the speed limit bit! (in this case seems to be 40mph)!
Robin = Robbin' is where the poetic licence comes in.
Lector .. whilst I am unable to explain the relevance of the speed limits, the relevance of "exhibits essentially poetic ingenuity" is surely self-evident from information given by Pea Pod?
Hi. Are there any clues with (30)? Or are we talking speed limits of 40, 60 and 70 mph?
12 Liminal (anagram)
I don't do this crossword ..a bit too difficult for me, but I should wait until you've got some answers to the clues , and maybe the speed limit thing will make more sense.
Question Author
rmleake --- yesthere are clues with 30 speed limits and others -

17a) [30] University teacher and undergraduate finally agreed!

(4)
Question Author
salney ... I too thought of an anagram for I'm all in' .... Chambers Wordgames came up with Liminal + Millian !!

Looked both up in the dictionary .... and for liminal got a definition ...

of, pertaining to, or situated at the limen.

so I couldnt see 'threshold'

is there another meaning?
17a is DONE - university teacher is don and finally undergraduate is the E so DONE = AGREED
Question Author
it's getting easier .... 2 answers!!

I feel that I should close with reciting the rest of the instructions .....

....... In down clues, the definition refers as usual to the answer, while the subsidiary indication and number in brackets refer to the grid entry, which in each case consists of the answer with one letter omitted: these letters spell out a message that solvers may find helpful. The overall reduction in speed (the sum of the contributions from A1 Etc) must be written beneath the grid. Chambers 2003 is recommended.

Question Author
thank to all - its a pity that I cannot send the Grid so that others may enjoy this puzzle!
