yes 111 is called Nelson, not sure why it's thought unlucky but i'm sure google will tell you

also the Aussies consider 87 (or 187, 287, etc) unlucky, it being 13 short of the hundred-multiple

111 as a cricket score is referred to as a Nelson .. it's an English superstition that 111 and its multiples are unlucky. The wickets resemble 111, and it is loosely connected with Lord Nelson's physical attributes. Double Nelson is 222 etc. ;0)

Have been given 111 as the answer before but the options I only had 49 or 81 as the options so thanks all but I'll have to keep looking.

Just to complicate matters, each International Test side has a different 'unlucky' number, for different reasons. 87 is traditionally the Australian 'unlucky number' because they have apparently lost most Test wickets, at that score, either as individual batsmen, or as a team score.

111 is traditionally accepted as the 'unlucky' England score for the reasons oulined in an earlier post, in relation to Horation Nelson. Triple Nelson (333) was the score at which Graham Gooch was out, in highest ever Test score. If David Shephard was (Umpire) was officiating in a mtach where any of the 'Nelson Scores' appeared on the scoreboard, he would hop about on one leg, until the score moved on, supposedlyt o break the curse of the 'Nelson Score.' Very amusing to watch !!!

If you are happy to accept 87 as the definitive answer for your frelevant purpose, I'll not bother explaining the other Test sides 'unlucky numbers'.

I thought the reason that the Aussies considered 87 to be unlucky was that you needed 13 more for your century. But it's definitely 87 !!!
