DT 25242 8a and 3d winner and groove?

i'm pretty sure 3d is groove 'record depression', but have put winner for 8a 'champion bridge player reaches target' as it's the only word I can think of that is remotely connected to the clue. But I'd really like someone to say if it's correct and to explain why! Thanks in advance.

Yes Winner, W = Bridge Game Player + Inner (centre of target)
Groove is correct. A record has indentations (depressions) or grooves in it.
I answered the wrong part but sarumite has come to the rescue.
Should also have said that W relates to West.
In passing, if anyone wonders why W is a bridge player, see "http://www.pagat.com/boston/bridge.html#player s%20and%20cards", which explains that It is traditional to refer to the players according to their position at the table as North, East, South and West, so North and South are partners playing against East and West.
