I've not worked out the answer to the actual clue but it leads to "eld" which is clued as "age", the extra word in 1 down.

I've completed the last four EVs, but found this one quite awkward

Could there be an anagram played partially on US FIDDLE (note the last three letters!)

been trying all i can think of, including anagrams, but no joy yet!!
Type of jacket = TWEED

Fiddle player = TWEEDLEDEE (or DUM)

Does any of this "strike a chord"? (Sorry)

i've tweedled about enough with this one!! will just send in my completed grid! do they actually need an explanation of how we arrived at answers anyway? have just received postcard to tell me i'm a winner of mephisto 2429 (3rd time in 2 months) so that will do me for this week :-)
How's your EV 752 going?
I started doing this crossword only four grids ago and have completed the previous four ~ but this one !

I have only about 10 clues solved and have sussed one of the themes! What about you?

crofter: its not a crossword i normally attempt & have not even had a chance to look at 752!! with sat.indy+times, sun.times + telegraph now eventually completed & having to work nights this week, its too late for me to try it now, but hope you manage it,good luck!
By now you will have seen the solutions to EV 751 and may have worked out this clue, but if not ...
