Please share, before you head off S
Finally got 45a, using Chambers Word Wizard. I had been using A2Z - which does not include foreign words.
"And then there were three".
Can't think of a clue for 45a, Steff. Do you want the word?

pretty please, I have rotten head cold and in very bad mood
so sooner I stop playing with Xquiz the better !!!
I should still be around for about 30-40 mins Steff, but as Aqua said it is difficult to give a pointer for 45a.

Final pattern is ?E?S?E?O?O which you could enter into th chambers on-line word search.

I will post link in a moment.
Morning all .
Clue for 45 a
Think of Miltons famous poem on melancholy which has an Italian title , and insert an 'i' into second word.
Took me ages yesterday to get this one.
Morning slaney .. hope you are well, as I said above should be shopping, but can't tear myself away. Good clue by the way! :0)

ok got that, thank you. am now going to bed with hot toddy to be ready for Fr/Sat etc good link, that - have made notes !!

bye for now, xx to all Steff
ps hope you're clock watching, sarumite !!
Hope you feel better soon Steff .. remember not TOO much water with it !! And yes, I must go easy on that submit button or will be sent to the tower again !!
Yes, "Gentle wools", Steff.
I've finished now, except that Chambers gives D instead of T as an alternative for 31d. I'm sure sarumite will sort me out when he gets back from K's super-store.
-- answer removed --
Hi Aqua ... back from the dreaded shopping .. for 31d I have Emboscata as in Chambers .. as you say the alternative is (Sp) Emboscada. Cheers (S).

Freedom for the People !! ;0)
OK,sarumite, thats me done, I'll stick with Emboscata. Should have been working on the boat today but it's pi$$ing with rain, so no great harm done.

One strange thing - I've just noticed that my score of answers removed has gone up one! Of course I've no idea what it might have been. Am I getting paranoid?
Aqua .. since Aug 2006 when I joined AB my profile shows 3861 answers given with 18 removed. No idea why so many have been removed, and I hope that none of them were seen as abusive!!

Its me again Sarumite, 37a, the genus according to my biologist husband is Sitta where do I find the rest, please.
Have hunted high and low, you obviously have a secret site to find all these obscure words!!
Not much work done today I am determined to finish this wretched crossword if it takes me until the weekend when I'll start all over again with the Daily Telegraph GK!!
Hi LaneyB
I had finished the crossword but when you mentioned Sitta I tried to find a way to get you to the correct word. I tried typing sitta and got:
Noun 1. Sitta - type genus of the Sittidae
That has 8 letters and doesn't fit so you must look for a variation on the word Sittidae.
Hope that helps.
