Have all the answers but can find nothing to fit the cruciverbal inscription. None of the various versions of "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews" in English or Latin will fit ( working on the assumption it is connected with Easter ). The inscriptions on both the V.C. and G.C., even writing out the names of the medals in full, are too short. I've tried first lines from Easter hymns and they don't fit either. Any suggestions or pointers please. I'm going back to it now with the inspiration of some red wine!

How many letters?

is it INRI ?
iesvs nazarenvs rex ivdaeorvm
novalis you are correct in your assumption, but not spelled in the way that eddiebun suggests.
Start coming down with Jesu, then go across with
s Nazarenus Rex and finish down with Judaeorum, making new words at the same time.
