Have finished, but am having serious doubts about answer to this one - I can't make the "daily exercise" bit fit my answer, and although my answer is in Chambers, it doesn't really relate to the exercise bit either. can anyone untangle my garbled thoughts and heavy hint me.??

Since no one's jumping in here. Can you post the clue for anyone not doing the quiz ?
This one is just about worn out now. Go with THE LOT. With so many people getting answers on this site, the quiz has now turned into a raffle.
A batch of horses grouped for daily exercise (horse racing)

This from Chambers
Spotty Dog -You're right, but you could say that about every major crossword and quiz published in the UK, that people on here give answers to.

I'm not sure where that leaves us.................
I said my piece earlier and got into trouble. Most crosswords and quizzes are short-lived affairs. This one is very popular, and goes on for three months. Help was being sought ages ago, there has recently been a deluge, and it's a reasonable bet that answers to most of the quiz could be obtained just by keeping an eye on this website. To my simple mind, that's unfair to people who spend hours investigating.
I'm glad now that there do seem to be a couple of people who feel the same, and I hope that some others may come on board.
. As for the solution, the only realistic one is to treat this particular quiz as different, abd ignore the requests, however contrary to the spirit of Answerbank this may be.
Sorry, BertieW. This wasn't meant as an assault on you, and I wish you luck.
It's just that there have been so many postings in relation to this particular quiz asking about so many clue numbers, and very hard on people who choose to do the quiz on their own.

Which edition? I don't see it in my copy. I do see "the entire number", but not the equestrian bit.

As for the rest of the debate, I'm sure the most important things here are the pleasure we all get from these quizzes - and from the community of fellow puzzlers, and above all the money raised for charity. If some folk get a bigger kick from working alone, then good for them. But this is hardly like breaking the bank at Monte Carlo! It's sad if people now see this as 'a lottery', as these puzzles are so well constructed and clearly give so many people such a lot of pleasure over a considerable period of time.

Perhaps it would be purer if we didn't commune in this way, sharing hints and tips (or - heaven forfend! ANSWERS!!!) or if the internet didn't exist at all and make so many reference sources readily available. But then I know folk who share ideas by telephone, or letter, or who sit in libraries looking things up. Should they too be discouraged? Isn't one joy of this quiz (and many othyers) that people get together and talk about it?

Puzzling need not be a solitary quest. Please, let's just enjoy it, each at our own level.
Hi Blackbull hope you see this as I have just seen your question. I have the 10th edition. Page 884, I hope that is of help.
