Hi All,
I wish all the great brains around here would take a step back.
I'm NOT talking about the wonderful cryptic puzzles in all our papers, but the smaller quizzes that the world and his wife can now get answers on via this site.
What's the point in setting a decent quiz, if EVERY darn thing is given away on here?
I particularly object to people that seem to expect the whole blasted quiz to be answered here.
There are some very good minds on this site, but I believe it should be policed a little bit, to stop lazy arses just using you!
I really feel for the setter of the latest Quizzes for Charity sports quiz.................what's the blooming point if the answers are ALL here?

Take a look at a dictionary or a thesaurus and note the size of the characters making up the words.
Then go to your computer and hit the print preview on your tool bar and you will see that words can be enlarged up to 500 percent if need be. A great boon to folks who have eye problems.
My hubby loves doing general knowledge crosswords but of late, due to eye problems, is unable to search the encyclopedia for some of the more difficult answers.
Im just a little too busy at times to do a detailed search for him and so he calls me and I ask on this site. Its quicker; he enlarges the text on the tool bar; gets his answer and doesnt become frustrated because he cant do what he loves, and I can get on with what I was doing before he called me.
We dont ask very many questions and mostly between the two of us can work it out, but when my hubby is working solo what difference does it really make where he finds his answers? Encyclopedia or Answer Back? (All questions are not solvable by memory and prior knowledge and some need to be searched).
I dont know about others who use this site, but perhaps they too have existing health problems.
You state Those on my side dont need this site. Beth, some folks really do need this site. So I want you to think about that aspect of it.
I am learning to do the more difficult cryptic crosswords which, until now, were unavailable to us. The help I have gotten from folks on this site has been tremendous and a real education. Its like being back in college again and learning a new language. Its quite wonderful and Im amazed at folks generosity in sharing their knowledge and their time. I think thats what this site is really all about.

PS. I do agree that some folks abuse the site, but they really do seem to

well it's all really blah blah blah...excusing why you have to use this site.
I shall be replying no more, so don't waste your time trying to make a point to me.
Those of you that must have subscribed to a question that went off the boards days ago, might want to ask themselves if they feel guilty and protest too much. Or maybe you just liked the idea of an argument?
Good luck with your cheating,,,you can justify it however you wish, but getting answers from this site is cheating the actual winner who could have done it alone.

Well! Beth. I have been as polite as I know how. Explaining a REASON to you and not and EXCUSE.
But since you don't seem to know the difference I will now excuse you such an uncharitable attitude.
I trust that your good eyesight and your wonderful brain will never let you down.
Good health and Good luck in the future since we don't be hearing from you again.

Well said Ont-ice. I found this a very friendly and helpful site like no other and threads like this spoil things for lots of us Why doesn't Beth create another site that is what she wants and take her few supporters (and language) with her and leave the rest of us alone to enjoy things the way they are ?
Wendyl. I only spotted the site yesterday when it came up on the "most recently answered.' I don't think you can throw the expression 'lazy arses' into a post and not expect someone to object.
I explained our REASON which was not an EXCUSE.
I'm left wondering - if someone doesn't know the difference between a reason and an excuse then what is that person doing on a crossword site at all?
However, we are not about to hear from Beth again so the matter is ended. Only the bad taste remains of being lumped in with the lazy arses.
I don't give a toss, but I daren't let my hubby know or he'll never try again and so his pleasure will be taken from him by someone who also needs to look up the word 'empathy' in her Chambers.

Hi Ont-ice. I think the 'lazy arse' Beth was referring to, is me. I posted two questions about the picture questions from the QFC Sports quiz and got this rather rude 'lady' bthbn demanding that I do the flipping questions myself !!!, hence my comments on this particular link. I certainly don't feel any guilt at asking for help if needed, and am happy to give hints, clues or answers when seeing questions asked that I know the answers to. I think that asking maybe a dozen or so questions over the eighteen months I have been a member of AB is not excessive and have been amazed at the friendliness of almost all the members of this site. Thankfully Beth is in the very small minority of people who seem to be members of AB just for the purpose of criticising others, as there seems to be no other reason to be a member if she doesn't believe this site should be used for answering questions, despite it's title.
Please don't let small minded people like Beth spoil you (or your hubby's) enjoyment of quizzing and crosswords. Long may you be a member of this 'AB family'.
