Sotto? As in sotto voce.
Mezzo (Forte) ?
These Italian terms are always confusing, even to musicians. I've gone for MEZZO. Technically it means "middle", so mezzo-forte is "middle-loud", i.e. halfway between quiet and loud. "Sotto" means "under", "secco" means "dry" and "segno" means "sign", so I don't think any of those would really fit.
I've gone for mezzo as well.
Where did you get the ' s ' from ? - there is no clue leading to it.
