Are these crossword questioners just lazy

All the answers can be found in onelook.com which searches a number of dictionaries. You can enter wildcard letters followed by a colon and a description.
Alternatively use the Reverse Dictionary. If the respondents are trying to win the prizes (if any) why tell everyone the answers? Must just be an ego thing.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.robert33, are you really surprised that you have upset some members, (not me , since this is a regular response which occurs when some people first encounter AB) since you begin by calling questioners lazy and go on to call answerers ego driven? I suppose, since you have made this discovery, we won't be hearing from you much in future.
I think we thought your comment was a criticism rather than a straightforward question.
I agree with you and with Quizmonkey that an awful lot of questions on here are totally unnecessary. I am continually surprised that people with sufficient googling skills to have found their way into the Answer Bank seem to be incapable of googling the simplest answers....
But, Robert, you are probably young and fit and get out a lot. A significant proportion of people on this site are really quite old, housebound, live alone or have family/caring responsibilies that stops them getting out and about much...... and I think asking and answering questions on this site fulfills a useful social function, and as you can see by the banter on the KM & MM Links sites (go back to any Friday night / Saturday morning), many of the regulars on this site have formed happy cyber friendships.
Who knows why people really ask questions? I don't ask many, but I answer them because I like the challenge, I like being helpful, I think that more people will pay for charity quizzes if they think they've got a good chance of getting most of the answers they need....and I too have made several cyber friends by doing just that.

If everyone seeking answers were to Google or use some other means to find the reuired results, what a lonely place AnswerBank would be! No one posting questions, Numerous fingers pressing f5 waiting for the questions that never come. The way it is now is just fine so leave it as it is. -(If it ain't broke don't fix it)
Thanks for all your varying views, very interesting. Not so Kettledrum I wish I was (third para). I am old and grey and have just suffered a stroke but I still relish a challenge to do it myself. I admit I have used AB on occasions when all else fails - if you cant beat em join em! Keep up the good work and enjoy. Lets call it quits.
apropos of absolutely nothing at all - 17a in Saturday's crossword - onelook.com was unable to help me the first time I asked, however at a later stage, with 2 extra letters, though still 'phrased' the same way, it gave me 'marvel of peru.
I think most of us just try to help out where we can when a question is asked and most of us like to achieve as much as we can ourselves, before we ask the questions.
