Last one to go - No 88. I know there have been postings about this one but nothing seems conclusive. The question reads to me that the artist is well known by their first name and not being well up in the arts I am really struggling with this. Any further ideas would be gratefully received.
starmack - The question is - what was the first name AND surname of the artist who, when told that one of his portraits was 'ugly and distorted', replied 'are you certian, madam, that it was my picture you were looking at and not your mirror'? No other information is given. mrslarge
I have googled 'til I can google no more!! The only one I can come up with is Francis Bacon as his paintings are ugly and distorted but can't find the reference.
This was in the Daily Mail a few weeks ago, an article on things people have said (allegedly). All our papers have gone to be recycled (before i started this quiz). I've looked through the daily mail web site but can't find it. I'm considering phoning them. Is that desperate or sad???
go for the phone call before it drives us all mad - lol
Other suggestion was Lucian Freud on the grounds that as it is asking for both names there are two people with same surname so you have to put first to make sure you have it right. Seemed logical to me so I have gone with that
rang Daily mail.not a lot of help. I have to write to their research department who will look for it and send the details to their back issue who will send me a copy of the newspaper, This takes 10/14 days and costs 2.00 (quite reasonable )any way I'll do it and hope it takes 10 days
