Hi quizm
sorry to bother you but you are about the only person on Answerbank who has the required knowlege and ability to to help.
Does the word discombobulate exist? I heard it being used on Newsnight last year but not in any context other than to describe the way Jeremy Paxman made his "guest" feel when being questioned by the great man.
I have recently seen the word on Answerbank apparently used by one of the twins on Big Brother. Apart from that I havn't seen it even in my modest dictionary.
Thanks in advance.

Don't mind at all, I hope you weren't insulted when i asked for QM? it kind of reads like I don't trust anyone else to give an honest answer
no of course not took it as a challenge - lol
it's in my medium-sized Oxford dictionary - although it's a made-up word (it means sort of confused or put off your stride) it's obviously been round long enough to make it into the language whereas words like absquatulate didn't really make the cut.
johnlambert,
to be really pedantic, you asked if the word discombobulate exists.
Clearly, it must, even if it is not listed in any dictionary.
Any word you care to make up immediately has existence
I wonder if COUNTDOWN would allow it if they had such big words?
What can I say, other than that I'm glad you got some answers, John?
