What is EV?

I see frequent references to a crossword (?) in EV. With apologies for my ignorance, but what is this? It sounds very hard if it's anything like the Listener.

Thanks for that. I don't have time to read the Sunday newspapers. I barely have time to get through the Sat Times and the odd weekday one. But, perhaps I'll make an exception one weekend.

Yes, it's a toughie - have been tackling it these last few weeks with some support from others. Basically it's a very tough cryptic with the addition of further 'twists' to the ways in which answers are put in the grid and other 'enigmatic variations' to a straight puzzle. There are several compilers so the degree of difficulty varies from week to week, but it is always a challenge. I haven't tackled the Listener but I gather from other people it is roughly in the same category of difficulty.

Agree with the above. I've been trying it for nine years and am still amazed at the ingenuity of the various compilers. As I've said before now through this forum it's addictive.
