Stuck for an answer on 6d Scene of uproar and confusion (7) ... I have ??A?P?T with several possibilities for first letter provided by the across clue.

The nearest I can find to fit this pattern is Beanpot, but this is probably too obscure.

5 across could be abject and 8 dorn could be tricky - neither of which are brilliant either but then I do tend to find the sunday ones a bit approximate

That's what I have for 5a and 8d polly, but also have several other possibilities for 5a such as Basest, Lowest, Rudest, Slyest and Vilest ... but couldn't find definitive answer for 6d to determine which one to use! (S)
I am going to go with bearpit. I have found it used in the context of media scrums etc eg. the Media bear pit - implying some sort of melee

Am inclined to agree with you on that, I feel certain that I've heard it used in that context in the past. (S)
