What is this? Is it an expression & do you know how may letters there are in the answer?
Question Author
Dont know how many letters its a phrase
Could it be 8 bananas in a hand? OED say 8 to 20 naturally, but how are they sold in shops?
8 bones in a head
-- answer removed --
8 bushels in a hogshead

ac
I too am struggling with this.
There are 29 bones in the head so it is not that.
One bushel equals 8 gallons. There are between 53 and 54 gallons in a bushel,so that doesn't equate either.
correction that should read 53-54 gallons in a hogshead
sorry
Don't you think it's just a tad early to be asking for answers to this quiz? In fact, as the closing date for the quiz is June 2008, I think it's more than a tad early - surely you can exercise your own brain cells a little more before having to resort to getting the answer from someone else (and then adding your own name to the entry sheet and making out you've answered it yourself)!
Is it definitely an H not M?

Thank you all for the answers, looks as though we will all have to think again, I can assure you boysinblue68 that I dont very often ask for any answers this one was just driving me mad I have nearly completed this quiz without any help and expect that I will think of the right answer in the end.
I am quite happy to help anybody where I can.
Admirable - but you've still got more than seven months to think about it - so why do you need to ask someone else to answer it for you. Surely the whole point about a quiz is to test your own knowledge (especially in a charity quiz). Where is the satisfaction from being given the answer by someone else and then claiming it for yourself?

I have noted so many disgruntled people on this site recently and I do wonder why you ever bother to look on it if you never want any answers to anything, is it just because you like to moan, I suppose you would not deign to pick up an answer to something you might want.
vicmarion - there are other reasons to look at this site apart from getting someone else to do your hard work for you.

You will also notice from previous questions that I have stated that I do not gain answers from here - my answers to any quiz I enter are my own work and mine alone. If I do not know the answer, I leave a blank space. I believe it's called ethics, integrity or pride!

What is really annoying is you search high and low for hours and finally find an answer, only to find that someone with no pride has simply asked for it on here and more foolishly, someone has provided it.

Sorry, but what is this site for? I thought it was meant to be an Answer Bank where people asked and answered questions. I pay for all the quizzes I enter plus giving a donation to the charity involved. That is my final word on this matter.
Ouch, sounds like I've hit a nerve!

Totally agree that's what this site is for, but once again you are missing the point. Why are you asking for help on a quiz that has more than 6 months still to go? And how on earth do you expect to learn more if all you want to do is ask other people to answer questions for you?

Saying that you give a donation smacks of admonishing yourself for getting the answers this way - but remember, we all pay to enter these quizzes - it's just that some of us get the answers by honest means.
sorry boysinblue but I have to disagree with you on this one.I have been doing cryptic crosswords for many years but would never have got started if not for studying the answers and getting an understanding of how to think the clues out.As a result I now get huge satisfaction from completing crosswords and puzzles that would previously have left me cold, and yes! sometimes I do need to know an answer in advance because you can go mad thinking about it and when you get the answer you can think'of course'and there you have it ,another way of thinking if a similar clue crops up again in the future. As to this clue I also cannot get anything close to an answer and think possibly it is a compiler error, would love to know either way.
Not sure how I missed all this discussion.
I have just emailed to ask if it is a mistake
