Thanks johnalex, I can see your logic, tho I did wonder what I was going to see on the link lol
you have root canal work done on your teeth so it may be something to do with canals? :0)

Hi Dustybun, thanks and i'll think about that
A cofferdam is part of a ship and is also something used in dentistry.
Question Author
Wow on both sides to your knowledge Grasscarp, you a dentist or a sailor?

This is making my head hurt even more, but thanks
I am neither, I just googled a website about nautical terms, and remembered hearing about cofferdam in dentistry as well. In fact I have had this bit of rubber stretched over my teeth on occasion!
Cofferdam is a thin sheet of natural rubber used for isolating teeth during dental procedures.
A cofferdam may also refer to an insulating space between two watertight bulkheads or decks within a ship.
May be completely wrong but as it is 9 letters I thought it worth mentioning....

Thanks Grasscarp, great knowledge to have and something to think about, however, doesn't really fit with clue easily, but then, I have no idea anyway.

Sorry to nitpick and I am really glad that you took the time to answer and expand, I think I can no longer think about this logically tonight.

Well just to give you other ideas
mainbrace has been suggested for 6

I had tripper but recently someone has said foghorn - which is a siren which relates to stripper

I'll be glad when I've posted this off cos I keep reprinting it and how am I ever going to get on with the very difficult book dingbat quiz I bought from someone!
I read on another thread that "mainbrace" could be the answer to number 6.

Thanks smouse and squarebear - I will continue to cogitate on this one for another week.

I've seen that dingbats quiz - looks a real stinker - but I believe I've got it all sussed. Let me know if you need any help, NOT. lol
