One of the best ever, Smiffy, has got to be the one that read simply: "H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O" (5). The answer was "water", because of "H to O" (H2O).
I agree with Quizmonster with the water clue. I also liked "GEGS" - 9-4. The answer is "Scrambled Eggs". It's not the hardest clue I've ever read but I like its simplicity and the fact that it's self-contained.
11 across in today's Guardian by Rufus is neat.
Loose Presbyterians (7, 6) - Britney Spears

I quite like this one A number of bodies. (12) Anaesthetist I also agree with QM and omblod. These three were already my favourites.
Sorry folks ****ed up the html!
Damn, I was going to say the water one... Someone gave it to me on a piece of paper and I was dead chuffed coz I got it in seconds!
I helped a work colleague with the Sport crossword one day. The clue was Church Vibrator, and the answer was electric organ.......... It still makes me laugh......
Went into service? (8) Old personnel carrier, powerfully armed? (5,5) A word of praise (8) Threatened strikes that don't come off (6) It's the law in France (11) In time the waves may recede from it (8) An opening for an opener (7) Bar of soap (3,6,6) All class ones!
To egg on (i.e. to encourage)... the answer was toast! So simple, yet tricky on the day.

Thanks, everyone. I think my own favourites, because they are both simple and clever, are the water, the scrambled eggs and the bar of soap.
