I've now completed the two grids for the current puzzle, but don't understand the indication on the final "Z" clue that says (not the TM spelling).

I have two alternative spellings for the answer, but the variant letter is on an exclusive square. Can somebody possibly enlighten me on the meaning of the term 'TM' spelling ?

thanks (S)

I am puzzling this and think it means Trademark ....you are going great guns there Sarumite ...I am still wading through my Chambers !

Thanks shaney ... rather than spending lengthy periods on it as I've done in the past, I put it to one side on several occasions when hitting the 'brick wall', and found that when picking it up again I was able to make better progress.

Chambers was an absolute necessity though, and it's sods law that I've finished with each set of answers in the wrong grid, so will need to run of another blank and rewrite them!!
I think that's a good idea ..I shall not look at it anymore today ..in fact I may put it away until after Christmas as I am getting nowhere ..lots of answers but I am not getting them to fit !
Which may mean that they are wrong ..hahaha ..
Anyway if I don't bump into you beforehand have a nice Christmas....all the best xxx
Both spellings are in Chambers, though under another word ..... Chambers indicates which is the TM (Registered) spelling (ie the spelling not wanted)

On Google, the Trademark spelling gets less than 500 results, whereas the spelling wanted gets 62,000+ results!

shaney ... thanks for your good wishes, and of course I hope that you also have a good Christmas.

Thanks yapisle for the extra information, Chambers is always by my side when doing the generalist, but after finding the Z solution elsewhere I omitted to cross check in the dictionary!
