The Sunday before Lent

[Medieval Latin quīnquāgēsima, from feminine of Latin quīnquāgēsimus, fiftieth, from quīnquāgintā, fifty; see penkwe in Indo-European roots.]

Thanks BigMac but the answer has to be 10 letters so is presumably some general word for the Sundays before Lent or Festival days ,hence the 'etc' in the clue. It's been a struggle all over Christmas!!
The Sunday before Lent is Palm Sunday but I don't think it's usually written as a single word.
Go with slaney's answer.

Shrovetide is an old word for the period before Lent when everyone went to confession first - then made merry afterwards.

Thanks everybody.I'll go with slaney and 'shrovetide'
What a relief
This was previously answered as Ordinaries, as the question goes on; etc. I beleive it refers to certain religious days of the year. I'm not at all religious, but it's worth checking.
I'm sure there was a post here earlier from geo0939 which seems to have vanished , saying this had been answered as..Ordinaries..which also fits well..same as Ordinary Time

Thanks for all your help and to geo 969.Sorry if I missed that, perhaps when the site was down a couple of days ago.
I think Shrovetide fits better with the' time' theme, as 'Ordinaries',whilst ecclesiastical, isn't time specific
