i put schoolmen
I put schoolmen too - Rugby is a private school and men as in pieces on a chessboard. Schoolman is in Chambers; a philosopher or theologian of medieval scholasticism; a teacher or educator (U.S.)
Forget the bit "men as pieces on a chessboard". Meant to say "players" as in men playing a sport.
In my days, "schoolman" was a derogatory term for a poser who played for the first XV.
