The book "The Four Feathers" is about a young army officer who dodges an order to rejoin his regiment as he is about to be married. He is given three white feathers (a sign of cowardice) by three of his fellow officers, and a fourth feather is added by his fiance. He spends the rest of the book in disguise in the desert battle zone proving he is not a coward and hoping that the feathers will be taken back. One of the old style ripping yarns.
