Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

are we meant to keep it or get rid of it?

it all depends how "down" is interpreted.......

No ambiguity - One Down refers to the treatment of all Down answers containing the letter 'i'

yes but that still could be taken either way - use it or lose it??

my initial thought was to use it...but now come to think of it down could be interpreted as gone and therefore not included

still i would keep it

No, the position of each 'i' in every Down answer is to be changed - answer lengths are correct.

I don't see how one can reasonably call this puzzle ambiguous. Even if you read "down" as "out" how to you account for the cross-checking letters which have obviously moved up to accomodate the Is moving down?

there still remains three (or 4 see below) ways to answer this crossword

1. keep all the i in the down clues that have clashes (as in one down meaning use i or one in the down clues)

2. get rid of all the i in the down clues that have clashes (as in one down meaning gone)

3. the i is entered into the lower cell and the lower letter is moved up into the upper cell

however if you take 9 down stickinsects then you have an i that does not clash, in the preamble or message it does not say move the other letter up

so if this letter is kept the same you have a 4th possibility i.e

1. sticknnescts
2. stiikiisects
3. stciknisects
4. stiiknisects

sorry but too much ambiguity for me, i have only given an answer to a clue because the closing date is finished

Perhaps not obvious, but certainly consistent. I don't have this puzzle in front of me at the moment, but I'm sure that the only one of your four possibilities that could apply to all down clues is the third, namely every letter i in a Down answer is moved down one cell.
