Hello, a friend told me that when entering prize crosswords, like The Mail on sunday etc, if you use correction fluid, or cross out, that the crossword is then invalid and not entered inthe draw. Does any one know if this is true.. Thank you

I remember reading on AB that someone contacted The Times on this very subject and was told that as long as the correction is legible the entry will be accepted. A friend of mine won the Mail on Sunday prize crossword after making various corrections to his entry.
That`s a good reply from JBW1366 - the issue has been raised several imes on here . The consistent opinion is that altered entries ARE acceptable so long as they are legible.
Unless they publish T&C saying that altered entries will not be accepted then they should be OK. Should....

I'm pretty sure that ALL entries, right, wrong, illegible, etc are 'included in the draw'. They pick out a few, check them and if they are right declare them winners then throw away the rest, unopened. Or sell them to a mailing list company.

Thanks, to everyone for the speedy replies.. I did think it was a bit harsh.. Everyone makes mistakes.. X
I find the best way around this problem is to use a PaperMate Erasermax pen (you can get them at most stationers), and providing you make the correction within a couple of days, it is a much neater way than using correction fluid.
I used tippex in the telegraph prize crossword and won THEIR PRIZED pen (Dec 03) so keep trying!!!
I invariably photocopy the grid to scribble in my answers and amendments if needed, then when finalised write them into the original.
It doubles the writing but allows absolute freedom when writing in potential answers!
Sarumite - you are so organised!
Possibly grasscarp - but more likely a lack of confidence in my initial efforts!! :O)

So do I, S. But then I make mistakes copying the answers in!
I've been there as well Aqua!! (S) :O)
I always use pencil, then ink in afterwards.
I always photocopy my crossword grids, but sadly smoetimes make a small mistake when copying on to the form
I contacted the Crossword compiler of the MoS last week and he told me as long as it was legible and not a copy it would be acceptable
