If the first crossword puzzle appeared in The Times back in the year Nineteen hundred and frozen to death , why is the current Daily Telegraph puzzle number 25,500+ whilst The Times is well behind at 23,800+ ?

possibly they started circulation at different times?

There was the Wapping strike in the 80's when I think there was no publication for a year but that wouldn't account for the vast difference.
Could it be something to do with the Saturday editions?
