many thanks to novalis but must admit that Paris green was the nearest guess I made. Re the proverbs biblical clue, every bible i checked gave fitting or fluttering and I couldn't find my Coleridge anywhere for the albatross. It was well worth staying up for. As for aquagility's comment all I can say is that when he/she is 83 and sleep doesn't come easily.trying to solve xwords is therapeutic. Keep up the good work!
