the storm

Good morning everyone. I am here on the Lincolnshire coast and the weather is, I think the correct technical term is, a bit blustery. I have just spoken to my son who is in Chelmsford and his short and to the point grammar school educated assessment of conditions there is crap!! I guess everyone on here will have a differing experience of the expected storm (we should work for Reuters!) so good luck everybody. D :0)

Went downstairs and found the dog flap permanently blown open by the wind and the kitchen full on rainwater coming in from the dog flap.
I work 2pm tp 9.30pm so I suppose I dont have an excuse to stay home !.
Thank god I am not on the streets and homeless in this weather, and if my gran was alive she would be singing "for those in peril on the sea" all morning.

Hi Dustybun! Weather is awful here too on south coast - pup refused to go out this morn in the garden, even on lead, but thankfully we have a lull at the mo, so are going for swift walkies!!! Apparently storm will pick up again later today. Ho hum - though I do feel so very sorry for the poor souls that have been really hard hit by the weather conditions. We only have minor damage which can be easily rectified.
Hope everyone is coping ok. :o)x

Hi all. I'm here in a very gusty and rainy Hertfordshire. Woke at 3am and the trees at the back of the house were still as anything, though when I went back to bed, the wind at the front was starting to pick up and it sure has now. I'm a bit worried about the lampost outside the house as it's blowing all over the place, and although I've had the council put a light deflector on it as the light glows into my bedroom.....if it's gonna fall down, I sure hope it goes across the road and not toward us.....arghhhh ! Keep your fingers crossed all.
Hi Jan - I'm just 16 miles north of Skegness in Mablethorpe and, judging by the maps I've just seen on the tv news, I reckon that 16 mile gap is so far protecting us from something a bit worse than "bracing"! Vive le gap!
Thank you all for your input. RAV4 Girl - I was in Watford for the 1987 gales. I slept through it all but when I woke up and looked outside, I thought the end of the world had come!

I'm here in Aylesbury, Bucks. Very wet and blustery but we all (my husband and son - who is 20/21 and would sleep through a hurricane! - all slept through. The only damage we have is the fence between us and next door but that is their responsibility as they're responsible for that boundary and I think it will come down!!
grasscarp I am well aware that there is a Weather section on this site but I only use the Quizzes and Puzzles section. Why would I want to engage in a very British chat about the slightly extraordinary prevailing weather conditions with people I don't know? You don't have to read it so please be kind enough to allow me to use this site in a way I enjoy, and you can return to the section between Insurance and Jobs & Education.
Dusty glad you started this thread as i have found it really interesting to know the weather around the country.
Like you I only use this thread and all my "friends" are on this site so I wouldn't have seen it anywhere else
This extreme weather is a bit of a puzzle so it's the right place anyway!!!!
Best wishes everyone and hope you all have a better night weatherwise.
PS I am in the midlands and think we have escaped the worst of it.

I do hope you are all ok, trees, shrubs and tall buildings still standing and everyone's chickens have come home to roost or something along those lines !!!
At the other end of the world and also the weather scale we've had a slight cool change and today will be about 34deg so I've crawled out of the fridge for the time being
How would you rate this storm - is it The Great Storm, The Very Great Storm, The Especially Windy Storm or The Great Blow ?? doesn't take much to know what we're getting reruns of, at the moment !!
