Hi, am I right in thinking 20) across is :- infected., and 21) down is :- fluffy. In that case the only word I can find for 18)down is :- niello. Is that correct and why? Your answers appreciated, John.

BTW, if these definitions match the clue for 18d then niello could well be right:
1. a black metallic substance, consisting of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, with which an incised design or ground is filled to produce an ornamental effect on metal.
2. ornamental work so produced.
3. a specimen of such work.
4. a print on paper made from an incised metal plate before the application of niello and associated esp. with 15th-century Italy.

Hi, The clue for 20) across is:- Carrying virus in fodder around Connecticut. (8)21)down Like Down's mistake before kerry's finish (6) and 18)down Sick boy shuffled about energetically (6) Further if Fluffy correct for 21)down then 20)acrosss reads **f*c*e* .18)down reads *i*l*o, that is if infected is correct. thanks John
