13 a Elliot
I can't find the reference either - but it's a valid word

n. Kodaking.]
To photograph with a kodak; hence, to describe or
characterize briefly and vividly. [obsolescent]
[Webster 1913 Suppl.]

It also fits with the other words I have - rocket, amsterdam and The Caretaker
14d Laodicea
Question Author
Thank you for Elliot, Junkman. Could you give me an explanation, please?

Thank you too to Spiderpig, but I think you'll find your 'rocket 'should be 'ticket'. (Google 'Burroughs, ticket' for his book.) But let me know if you have other ideas! Many thanks once more.
Paula POWER is the heroine of Hardy's A Laodicean. Laodicea is a place (hence 'provenance').
Rickie Elliot in Forster's The Longest Journey.
Thanks Coppins Crew, if I remember right I was thinking of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Science Fiction - that's how I came up with Rocket. - it also explains why I was having trouble with16d, I've been out celebrating my wins at Aintree yesterday, so I'll leave the rest of the crossword till tomorrow !
