Could someone please explain these two cryptic answers which appeared in the Telegraph crosswords on Wed and Fri:-

 Book place in NW England (6) ECCLES
 Tune that's fine but not loud (3) AIR

I follow
 ECCLES as a "place in NW England", but why "Book";
 AIR as "tune", but why "that's fine but not loud".

I don't like the first clue; there is no indication that you should abbreviate an OT book; I could only get to Hay-on-Wye as a book place !
